Rick and Laura in the studio

Rick Jacobson and Laura Fernandez met at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary. Both were enrolled in the then Visual Communications Program and met through a mutual friend. Often admiring each other's work and attending the functions at the art college which was a hub for interesting events and cultural avant-garde exhibitions, they found they had much in common and developed a friendship which eventually led to partnership in life and business and to one of the most unique artistic relationships in the history of illustration.

Their professional career began in Toronto where they began to work in editorial illustration as well as publishing and eventually in the commercial illustration field. Represented in Toronto and in New York, they eventually worked for an impressive list of clients and with all the top international agencies and garnered multiple Toronto and New York art director awards as well as Communication Art Awards and the Amelia Frances Howard Gibbons Gold medal for Illustration awarded by the Canadian Library Association.

They started working together out of necessity in completing complex projects under impossible time pressures and prided themselves in never missing a deadline. Their work was unique in that separately they each kept their own style but together they developed a third and blended style. Rick and Laura were in high demand and they were incredibly prolific, besides having worked internationally for clients such as Coca Cola, IBM, Pepsi, Air Canada, Estee Lauder, BP Petroleum, GM, Disney, World Wildlife Fund and many more they have 19 published Children’s Books and have illustrated numerous Children’s Young adult and adult book covers.

Their work can be found in many places and continues to add beauty to the world. They work individually and together to this day in multiple mediums including digital illustration and graphics.
